The most recent unemployment data released by Iowa Workforce Development showed significant improvement locally in June. Marion County has a 6.5% unemployment rate as of last month, which is down from 8.4% in May, and Warren County sits at 6.9%, down from 8.5% the previous month. Those trends follow a similar statewide drop, as Iowa sat at 7.9% in June, which was down from 9.9% in May. Those numbers are significantly higher still from record lows in 2019, as Marion County was at 2.1% unemployment in June of last year and Warren County was at 2.6%, just below the state rate of 2.8%. Last month, there were 16,610 employed individuals in Marion County, and 1,150 actively seeking work, while Warren County currently has 25,000 employed and 1,800 looking for a job.
