Nearly all of Warren County has been classified as “Abnormally Dry” by the US Drought Monitor. Abnormally dry conditions mean that short-term dryness will be slowing planting and the growth of crops or pastures, with impacts of corn showing drought stress and dry soil. Much of Madison County to the west and Polk County to the north have been classified as in a moderate drought, with further western counties classified as in a severe drought. Due to the much-needed rain that traveled through the area last week, the drought monitor is expected to change the classification when the next report comes out.
