Huisman Surprise State Qualifier in Wrestling

Starting his wrestling career in November, Pella High School Junior Kody Huisman was unsure of where the season would take him. But after a strong stretch run to a 2nd place finish in the Class 3A District Wrestling meet, Huisman became a state qualifier in our No. 4 moment from the top ten at Pella High School in 2019-20.

Huisman battled back with two wins by fall in the 3rd place and 2nd place matches after losing in the semifinal. He says he wasn’t sure what to expect when he joined the wrestling team when the winter started, but with the help of the Dutch wrestling coaching staff, he was able to rapidly improve throughout the season.

Huisman went 1-2 at the 2020 state meet at Wells Fargo Arena. Kody is poised to lead Pella’s senior class heading into the upcoming football season, having already committed to play for North Dakota State on the gridiron.
