Devin Haveman Makes Mom Proud
—
On senior night at Eagle Lane, a multi-sport athlete supporting the Pella Christian boys basketball team through his stat-keeping made a moment to remember for a lifetime, and it comes in at No. 2 in the countdown of best stories from Eagle Lane in 2019-20.
Pella Christian senior Devin Haveman has served as the team’s manager this past season, and while he was also a varsity football, bowling, and baseball starter, Haveman had been helping this year’s Eagles basketball team off the court.
As time was expiring against Newton Tuesday, Head Coach Larry Hessing sent Haveman out in uniform, a moment that the senior seized.
The shot Haveman made came on the night the school also was honoring his mother Sheri’s fight with cancer. Sheri is the school’s Teacher Librarian and Tech Coordinator, and has been with Pella Christian High School since 2003. Devin was able to play after teammate Caden Van Dyke gave up his jersey prior to the game.
