With two standouts and longtime performers in Bailey Blake and Ashley Rockhold graduated from the Indianola girls cross country team, the squad will look towards others to fill the gap. Head coach Kim Arndt tells KNIA Sports underclassman Emily Naughton and Joey Werling have stepped up, and a lot of it has been a collaborative effort from others.

“As far as verbalized and team camaraderie leadership, I have a great group of seniors this year. They’ve done a great job of keeping kids informed on stuff, asking me questions. Their probably one of the best groups I’ve had as far as communication and being great leaders through what they do. They do all the little things that you would hope a senior would do and take that initiative role.”

The Indians begin their season Tuesday at Ankeny Centennial.
