The Knoxville Library has announced that it is offering mobile hotspots to check out. These devices will provide internet access via a 4G network that users can connect their internet-enabled devices to. Director Roslin Thompson says that she is excited the library can offer this service, especially when some students are electing to learn online.

“We have hotspots available for checkout, and we just see the need for that. That’s part of the mission that we have, we provide access to technology. With school going online, we are pleased to be able to offer these mobile hotspots, especially for people in rural areas who may not have broadband access or internet access in their homes. They can be checked out for two weeks, and they can be renewed. That’s something new that we are going to try.”

Thompson adds that she anticipates it will be a popular service. The library currently has four hotspots available for checkout, but may add more based on demand.
