The Knoxville Police Department is reminding residents that they are still accepting donations following last week’s Helmets & Hotdogs. The department needs gently used helmets to donate either right away, or at next year’s Helmets and Hotdogs. School Resource Officer Kyle Keller with the department says that the helmets donated at the event have already been distributed, and wants to ensure every child that attended receives a helmet.

“We had nine or so, I was hoping for more than that. I did have some people tell me that they had helmets and they’d bring them to me at a later date, which is great. So anyone out there, if you have good helmets at home that can just be cleaned up and still be used by some other kids, reach out to me at the police department, or bring them up to the police department, we’ll get them cleaned up and get them out to some of these kids that didn’t get them. I did tell some of the families that came through that didn’t get a chance to get a helmet to also reach out to me at the police department to try to get them a helmet once we get some more donated and cleaned up.”

The department says that 62 vehicles went through the drive through event, with approximately 231 people. 115 helmets were donated at the time. To donate a gently used helmet, contact Kyle Keller at the Knoxville Police Department.
