The Knoxville Recreation Center is offering a new sport on its outdoor courts. Pickleball is a sport that combines elements of tennis, table tennis, and badminton. Knoxville Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers says this is a fun sport, and encourages people to come by to learn the game and try it out.
“We’ve taped off a couple of the tennis courts here, we’ve lowered the net a couple inches to meet the pickleball standards. We do have equipment available to check out here for ages 18 and up. It’s a growing sport. There’s people that are snowbirds that come back, they’ve been playing it in Texas, so they have some interest up this way as well. It’s a fun little game, we’re pretty excited to be able to tape those courts off and offer that.”
Nemmers also reminds residents that while equipment is available for checkout, it is encouraged for people to bring their own. To view a complete schedule of events and other activities offered at the Knoxville Recreation Center, click here.
