Today is the official deadline to submit property taxes in Marion County. Residents can submit payments without penalty until September 30th, and delinquency begins on October 1st. Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette explains the ways people can pay.

“We do have a dropbox that’s located at the north end of the building. We check that several times a day. We encourage folks to use that, especially those that need to submit payments after hours. We also have an online function available. Our website is IowaTreasurers.org. I really encourage people to use that. It is easy, you can do it at home, it only costs 25 cents to pay by eCheck online, that’s cheaper than a stamp. We also accept credit cards over the phone. There is a 2.25 percent fee for submitting payment that way.”

Payments sent through the mail should be addressed to the Marion County Courthouse, which will be forwarded to its temporary location. Mailed payments must be postmarked by September 30th.
