The Optimist Club of Knoxville has received an award from the Daughters of the American Revolution for Proper Use, Correct Display and Patriotic Presentation of the Flag of the United States of America. The award was given in a presentation in Knoxville on Saturday. Club President Craig Kelley says it was an honor and surprise to receive the award.
“It actually came as kind of a surprise. We didn’t know this was going to happen until a couple of weeks ago. But it’s a great honor to be recognized by such an outstanding organization in itself.”
Along with promoting optimism and patriotism, the Optimist Club of Knoxville is responsible for placing American flags in residential neighborhoods throughout the city. Flags are placed for five holidays throughout the year, including Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day.
