Little Hawkeye Volleyball action resumes this evening and both Tulip City squads are on the road for varsity action.

No. 12 in 4A Pella will take its 6-2 record on the road to Norwalk, after the Lady Dutch edged Indianola in an early season match that could have conference standing implications if the green and white can keep finding the win column.

Pella’s offense has been fueled by Junior Bailey Van Voorst, who has the 13th most kills (60) in Class 4A and has been a consistent match-to-match threat, and Sophomore Jasmine Namminga, who came on strong at the Bondurant Tournament and has 50 kills — and her 17 total blocks are 10th best in the class. The Lady Dutch offense is nearly four percent better in efficiency overall than in 2019, and Junior Anna Vander Waal’s 158 assists are the 7th most in Class 4A. Pella has 54 team blocks, which is 7th best in the class, only behind tonight’s opponent, as Norwalk has 61, good for 5th.

Pella Christian will trade places with the Lady Dutch from last Tuesday as the Eagles head to Indianola tonight. The Eagles fell in a five-set thriller with the Warriors and had their Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont match delayed due to COVID-19 concerns in the Rockets’ school district.

The Eagles are paced by 48 kills each from Juniors Avey Amelse and Sarah Gritters, and the duo combined for 39 kills against the Warriors last week. Pella Christian’s serving game has been a strong point in their 3-4 start to 2020, as their 47 aces are 12 most in Class 2A.

Varsity action for both Pella and Pella Christian begins at 7:15 this evening on the road in Warren County.
