After two losses against tough 2A foes, the Pella Christian football team hopes the district opener is the remedy to finding win number one this season.
The 0-2 Eagles make the long trek to Leon to take on 1-1 Central Decatur as the Eagles begin a bid to seek a fifth consecutive district championship this evening.
Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski says for the second week in a row, they will be short key linemen battling injuries, but he believes the young back-ups filling in are learning a lot from the elite competition they faced last week — and hopeful more holes in the ground game will jumpstart the offense.
Pella Christian will need to find more traction rushing the football if they want the top prize in Class 1A District 7– they are only averaging just over one yard per carry and have tallied just 51 yards in the first two games.
Coverage from Central Decatur for the Eagles at the Cardinals begins at 5:30 this evening, with kickoff at 6 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS. Andrew Schneider and J.D. Boer will be on the call for the district opener.
