State Senator Marionette Miller-Meeks visited Weiler Thursday afternoon to tour the facility as part of her ongoing campaign to be elected in Iowa’s District Two Congressional race. U.S. Representative from Minnesota from Tom Emmer was on location as well. Miller-Meeks says that they wanted to learn about the company and the challenges Weiler is facing, and how they can amend policies to fit Weiler’s needs.
“This has been a long time coming, wanting to tour Weiler. Pat and I recently talked and we arranged a tour. Chairman Emmer, who is the chairman of the NRCC and a U.S. Representative from Minnesota happened to be in state today. So we decided instead of sitting around a big table, we’d tour the facility since we had it on the schedule to begin with. It’s actually great to tour our manufacturing, get to know a little more about their business, the hurdles that they’re facing, and how we transfer that into policy in the future both at the state level and the federal level.”
State Representative Jon Thorup and State Senator Ken Rozenboom were also on site. Miller-Meeks added that agriculture and infrastructure policies also need to be looked at in order to improve markets for manufacturers. Miller-Meeks is the Republican challenging Former State Senator and Democrat Rita Hart for the seat currently held by Democratic Congressman Dave Loebsack, who is retiring at the end of this term that started in January 2007.
