It was a cold and rainy night in Chariton, but the PCM Mustangs brought the heat on route to a 60-0 rout of the Chargers on the road.

The offense was nigh-impervious and their defense was impenetrable during the first shutout for PCM in 2020. As for the home team, Chariton has been shut out in all three contests, getting outscored 135-0 in the process.

It was a treasure trove of riches for the Mustangs as they reached the end zone nine times. Quarterback Augie Stock had one with his legs then added one with his arm to Brayden Berger. Sage Burns scored on a goal line situation. Linebacker Andrew Mitchell returned a fumble 60 yards for a defensive score. As usual, Junior running back Aiden Anderson led the way with three scores. It was his second hat trick on the year and now leads the team with seven total. One of which was on the first play of the second half. The backup offense led by Carson Vande Lune under center wound up with two scores, including an 80 yard pass to Carson Duinink.

Being the only game for PCM on grass, and also the mud, head coach Greg Bonnett’s No. 1 ranked squad prepared accordingly on a short week of practice and executed well, despite some missteps.

“For the most part, I think we did okay. I think Aiden Anderson is just a little upset with letting some of those balls slip out. He doesn’t want to be that way. He really hit the gas on that first play of the second half. I think he was trying to make up for some fumbles. That’s something we preach we never ever want to do. Other than that, we knew completions were going to be hard to do. Throwing the ball was going to be hard. It was hard for both teams. You take what you can get and it was ground and pound tonight.”

PCM hits the road for the third straight week as they play Saydel in Des Moines next Friday. The game can be heard on the KRLS3 stream on kniakrls.com.
