central-krls-classic-feature

He’s since broken nearly every Central College passing record in the books, but on the morning of September 23rd, 2017, Blaine Hawkins was just a freshman waiting for his first varsity opportunity.

This Saturday afternoon on our “KRLS Classic” broadcast, we’ll look back at a coming out party for the ages.  The Dutch were off to a 1-2 start that season, and trailed Nebraska Wesleyan 10-0 during their homecoming game at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium when Hawkins was summoned.  His first drive resulted in a three-and-out, and the Prairie Wolves made it 17-0 on the ensuing drive.  From that moment forward – it was all Dutch.

Central outscored Nebraska Wesleyan 52-10 in the final two-and-a-half quarters to earn a 52-27 victory.  Hawkins threw for 253 yards and rushed for 93 more, in just three quarters of action.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Trevor Castle and George Wares called the game live that Saturday afternoon, and you can enjoy it all over again this Saturday afternoon at 1:00 on 92.1 KRLS.
