The Indianola School Board discussed the Return to Learn Plan at their most recent meeting, reviewing the plan now that schools have been in both in-person and a virtual learning environment for three weeks. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the district is keeping a close eye on the number of students who are currently in a virtual learning environment, and using that as a metric for future decisions.

“Currently our four elementary schools range from 8.2% to 12.3% remote learning, and our middle school is at 15%, and the high school is at 15.5%. Those are some of the numbers we are watching, going through discussions right now administratively, soon with our teaching staff and then with the board, as to what the metrics are and what they will look like if we are ever to go fully in-person learning again and lengthen the school day back out.”

Sathoff also said he appreciates the difficult situation that teachers, staff, students, and parents are in regarding virtual learning, and the district will continue to work to better streamline the process.
