Running at Central College Saturday morning, the Indianola boys cross country team placed 11th out of a stacked field with 279 points. Junior Logan Hoger had the top time for the Indians, with fellow classmate Curtis Johnson placed 39th, while sophomore Hunter Seifrig earned a 64th place spot to round out Indianola’s top performers. Head coach Kevin Barnes tells KNIA Sports his team has faced some of the best in the state the past few meets, and it shows his guys what they need to do to get to that level.
“We are facing some really good competition, and sometimes when you have that you have to take your lumps to see how it goes. I’m confident, and we are going to have a big group of returners for next year and I’m certainly not counting this year out. So we are trying to get our young guys some high level experience by the end of the season so we can continue to build on that.”
The Indians will next race Thursday in their home meet.
The IHS Girls Swim Team finished fourth at the Marshalltown Bobcat Invitational on Saturday. Junior Jorja Culver won the 200 Freestyle and tied for 2nd in the 100 Freestyle, Sophmore Kodi Cram finished third in the 500 Freestyle, and the team of Olivia Bacon, Ali Borgmeyer, Julian Bacon and Jorja Culver finished third in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Indianola swims next on Thursday at Marshalltown.
