The PCM cross country team hosted its annual home meet Tuesday evening, running a brand new course near the high school in Monroe.

The girls race featured 10th-ranked Davis County taking the team title with 29 points. PCM was second with 42, and Pella Christian rounded out the field with a score of 71. Individually, Pella Christian freshman Jaclyn Holmes used a surge in the final stretch to take the title in a time of 20:56. PCM sophomore Paige Steenhoek was right behind in a time of 21:01. She says that this race was a good gauge of where the Mustangs stack up against other talented teams.

PCM freshman Tiffani Koonce was fourth with a time of 21:53. Five other Mustangs finished in the top 16. Aside from Holmes, the rest of Pella Christian’s runners finished between 17th and 28th.

On the boys side, 6th-ranked Davis County ran away with the team title with 18 points. Pella Christian came in second with 49, PCM was third with 89, and Ankeny Christian rounded out the team scores with 96. Davis County had the top three and seven of the top 10 finishers, but Pella Christian senior Brayton Juffer finished fourth with a time of 18:23. Not too far behind him was Eagles sophomore Caden Van Wyngarden in sixth with a time of 18:27. PCM senior Beau Webb cracked the top 10, finishing in a season-best 10th place with a time of 19:20. He says he was happy to finish with a season-best place, and was intrigued with the new course.

Three other Eagles runners finished in the top 15, including Ryan Natelborg, Ethan Milligan and Micah DeHaan.

Both PCM and Pella Christian will have a week off before traveling to Knoxville on Tuesday. Interviews with Beau Webb, Paige Steenhoek and Tiffani Koonce can be heard on tonight’s Radio Sports Page at 6:00 p.m. on KNIA and KRLS.
