The No. 2 in Class 3A Pella boys cross country team edged out No. 4 in 3A Solon and the rest of a strong field at the Williamsburg Invitational Tuesday.
The Dutch boys outscored Solon by one point 50-51 in the final standings, and the teams were just .03 seconds apart in total time. Pella was paced by Tony Schmitz (16:56) in 4th and Chase Lauman in 5th (16:56.54), with Nathan Vander Waal in 9th (17:05.74).
Pella moved from their originally-scheduled race in Knoxville, and competed against two ranked Solon teams, a pair of top five in 2A Williamsburg boys and girls squads, the No. 5 in 2A Tipton boys and No. 14 in 2A Tipton girls, as well the No. 1 in 2A Danville-New London boys team.
The Lady Dutch placed fourth behind all three ranked girls squads in the field, paced by Abby Cutler’s 7th place finish (20:43.35), and freshman Jacie Trine and Autumn Blink finishing back-to-back in 16th (21:23.3) and 17th (21:24.31) respectively.
Pella is next scheduled to compete at the Hillcrest Academy meet in eastern Iowa Monday, which would be the final regular season meet of 2020 until the Little Hawkeye Conference teams head to Norwalk on October 12th.
