Gaining some familiarity with the site of next weekend’s American Rivers Championships, the Central College women’s golf team endured windy conditions to post a second-place finish at the DMACC Invitational Monday. The tourney was staged at the par-71 Ames Golf & Country Club.
Iowa Western won the six-team tourney with 335 while Central shot 338 with Des Moines Area Community College at 358. Iowa Lakes had 368 with Buena Vista at 370 and Simpson at 397.

Sophomore Delaney Underwood shot 81 for the Dutch, tying Luisa Gibson of Iowa Western for second. Seira Kubo of Iowa Western took medalist honors with 80. Mackenzie Biggs shot 82 to tie for fifth, Madison Clark shot 87, Peyton Bytnar had 88 and Whitney Anderson had 90. The Dutch had three at-large entrants. Avery Woods had 92, Rachel Sohn had 96 and Brielle Reed shot 114.

Kyle Gabos carded a season-low 75 for the Central College men’s golf team at the DMACC Invitational Monday. The Dutch finished sixth in the 13-team tourney with 311. Iowa Western won with 286, a shot better than Indian Hills. Hosted by Des Moines Area Community College, the 13-team tourney was staged at the par-71 Ames Golf & Country Club.

Gabos, who tied for 13th individually, bogeyed the last three holes but had an otherwise steady round on a blustery day. Central freshman Matt Briggs shot 77, Nic Kauffman had 79, Harold Dobernecker had 80 and Wyatt Crosby shot 84. The Dutch also had a pair of at-large entrants. Lucas Wendel had 77 and Jacob Moffett shot 81.

Central serves as the host school for the Central Fall Classic next Monday and Tuesday at the par-72 Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. The tourney field will include several American Rivers squads as the course is the site of next spring’s conference tournament.
