Running its winning streak to three matches, the Central College women’s tennis team blanked Buena Vista University 9-0 Thursday afternoon. Central defeated the Beavers for the 41st time in 41 tries.
At the top of the lineup for the Dutch, Karleigh Schilling did not yield a game in either singles or doubles. She and Alyssa Lewton were 8-0 winners at No. 1 doubles before she downed Rachel Brockney 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. The other five singles players for Central won 60 of 72 sets played, including three players who only lost one set. Bronwyn Metcalf was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles and Lewton triumphed 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3. Maddie Hartley was victorious 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles while Katie Larson and Sarah Schirm won by identical 6-1, 6-0 margins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Central finishes the regular season 4-3 overall. All three of Central’s doubles pairings from Thursday’s match will play together at the American Rivers Conference Individual Championships this weekend in Des Moines. Schilling and Lewton will be the No. 1 seed in the A-Flight.
