Strong to severe storms will be possible later today into the overnight as a cold front sweeps through the state. Ahead of this front, temperatures will be in the 70s in south central Iowa. The front will be the focus for thunderstorms to develop later in the afternoon into the night. The main threats will be damaging winds and large hail.

A burst of colder air settles into the region by Friday, with daytime highs in the 40s through Sunday. A winter-like start to next week is expected as well, with overnight lows in the low 20s Monday and Tuesday mornings and afternoon temperatures in the mid 30s.
