indianola-3

The Indianola defense held Johnston to under 100 total yards as the Indians dominated the Dragons in a 30-7 victory to secure their third straight trip to the round of 16 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians scored on the first possession of the game on a Kael Kolarik 32 yard touchdown scramble, then blocked a punt on Johnston’s first possession and recovered deep inside Dragon territory, but a fumble gave the ball back to Johnston and they drove 78 yards down the field for the score. That would be all the offense Johnston could muster for the rest of the game, as Kolarik added another score before halftime for the Indians to go up 14-7 at the break.

The Indians forced a turnover on downs on Johnston’s first possession of the second half, then Steph Stark kicked a 31-yard field goal to go up 17-7, and added another Kolarik score and a 6-yard pass from CJ Kuehl to Colton Gordon to seal the win. Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports it was a full team effort to pick up the big win.

“I felt like we had more in the tank, I felt like we hadn’t played our best football and put it together for 48 minutes. You always want to get the most out of a football team, and I feel like we are playing our best right now. We wanted to get in, we just wanted an opportunity. We feel like we have a really good football team, and there are a lot of good teams that don’t want to see us right now.”

Kolarik rushed for 134 yards and three scores in the contest. The Indians improve to 4-4, and await their opponent for the round of 16, announced at noon Saturday.
