For the second straight year, Twin Cedars will be represented at the class 1A State Cross Country Meet by one runner. Rylee Dunkin is making her second trip in as many seasons to Fort Dodge. Her coach, Trent Verwers says while the Fort Dodge course does not have very many hills, they both attribute her improvement to being able to run the hills and power through.
Verwers:
“When she sees a hill it is a dead sprint up the hill and she makes up so much time. I guess with the state meet course it’s a little flatter, so I won’t help her there, but at the end of the day she got 7th last year, and we’re looking to improve that.”
Verwers says making up time on the final hill at the Pekin State Qualifier was key in her win as she caught and passed a runner from Iowa City Regina to win. Dunkin will run in the class 1A meet next Saturday at 3:30.
