NBA Legend and Pella High Graduate Kyle Korver returned to his hometown Wednesday night.
Korver held a Q&A session at the Central College Kuyper Fieldhouse about his essay “Privileged,” which appeared in The Players’ Tribune in April 2019, and also shared stories about his NBA career.
The crowd was socially distanced and included Central College, Pella, and Pella Christian basketball athletes, as well as Central faculty and other members of the community Korver called home before becoming one of the greatest three-point shooters in professional basketball history.
Professor of Education at Central College Jen Diers says she was happy to see so many people engage in Korver’s stories and experiences, and to learn more about privilege and racial injustice.
“I just think it’s amazing to have someone like Kyle here on campus and back in Pella, just to be that connection and bridge,” she says. “He’s just lived such a life and can really help us to challenge ourselves.”
The event was part of the Geisler Penquite Educational Excellence Speakers Series. Following the speech, Korver also met members of the Central College men’s and women’s basketball team and spoke with several friends in the Pella area for close to an hour.
