Pam Pepper was appointed as the Indianola City Mayor by the Indianola City Council at their special meeting Thursday evening, filling the position after the resignation of Mayor Kelly Shaw. Pepper was one of four candidates to be considered for the position, and one of three to attend the meeting to answer questions from the council.

Council members asked questions regarding the relationship between the mayor, council, and city manager, priorities as mayor, and how they would handle disagreement and criticism.

A petition requesting a special election for the position of Mayor must be filed with the city clerk within fourteen days of the appointment, which expires on November 12th. If the petition is filed, the appointment by the council is temporary, and will be filled through a special election coming in March. If a petition for a special election is not filed, the term will expire at the end of 2021.
