The Trojans fell short of their team goals in 2020, but individual accolades were plentiful as the Class 1A District 7 first and second teams as well as honorable mentions were announced.
In total, 14 of them earned recognition including eight seniors. The only first team unanimous selections were Matthew Kauffman and Jake DeJoode along the O and D lines. Kauffman’s highlight of the year was taking a direct snap on a punt and converting for a first down. Punter Bristol Huyck (HOW-ck) was also a first teamer.
Quarterback Caylor Clark was on the first team as a utility player after being utilized all over the field. Colby Sandholdt was perhaps their most outstanding player being the team’s top receiver and top corner. He was undoubtedly the best defensive player for the Trojans. Isaac Mann was a first team running back despite missing the regular season finale and being limited in Pleasantville’s lone playoff game.
Second team selections include tight end Dale Jolly, defensive back Ben Wicks, and offensive linemen Ross Stephens and Braiden Friday. Fellow linemates Cody Garr and Cole Sampson as well as defensive end Trevor Daggett were named honorable mentions.
