This season for all high school sports will be unlike any other, and the Pleasantville Trojans had to come up with a plan on how to stay safe following the COVID-19 outbreak.
Among very strict district policies, including masks being worn at all times by everyone during the school day, including visitors. When the cross country squads held practice for the first time, they had to change it up in order to take the necessary precautions.
Head Coach Aaron Fichter describes what measures were taken to help protect not just his athletes, but the Pleasantville community as a whole.
“Just speaking of the guidelines, first of all we were just trying to figure out what was expected of us from state level. And then honestly, when that came out, we just tried to keep everything outside all summer. There were times where we would come in and do something in the weight room or do some rehab stuff inside or warm up in the gym. We just moved all of that and kept it all outside basically until school started.”
By limiting the proximity between the athletes, as well as the district as a whole, the Trojans were successful in their objective, and didn’t have any known positive cases in 2020.
