A summer unlike any other lead to a fall unlike any other for the Trojans as their numbers on the Cross Country teams looked thin at the start of practice, especially on the boys’ side.
They had less than a half dozen boys competing for the first month or so, resulting in non-scoring efforts for the team. However, this was due in part to limited access to students during their summer vacation. Once August came around, things started to look up.
Once Head Coach Aaron Fichter was able to talk to prospective students about joining the team after classes began, the roster more than doubled and a full team was able to be put out there in time for their home meet on September 14th.
Fichter describes and credits these recruiting tactics to his team’s success this year.
“It did take us a while to talk to some kids, and honestly we had a great turnout that way. I think we ended up recruiting five or six kids. Boys that were ‘hey, I didn’t know about this’ or ‘I hadn’t thought about it but I’m glad you asked me’ kind of a thing. So we ended up rounding out our team and getting a team score the rest of the season.”
The Trojans finished with eight boys and thirteen girls on their respective rosters.
