The Indianola Community School District is working on a plan to bring a full day of school for in-person learning, rather than the early release system for the virtual learners to interact with teachers. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the new system would have virtual learners have remote learning synchronous with in-person learning, and new staff would be available to help accommodate that and assist the teacher.

“Those remote advocates would work as a liaison between the remote learners and the school, and would help take some things off the plate of some teachers. Because if they are going to be there all day we would have to find a way to accomplish some of the contacts, phone calls, and administrative things that go along with remote learning. So part of it is staffing, and we are working on some things with technology, because right now that would seem to be the most practical way to serve remote learners would be to get them synchronous instruction with the rest of the class.”

Sathoff also said there are a lot of moving pieces, and the plan will continue to form over the next several months.
