The Knoxville HyVee presented a check to the Knoxville Police Department Friday morning as part of the department’s canine fundraiser. HyVee recently partnered with the police department for its weekly Thursday night meal, with one dollar being donated for every meal served. Store Manager Jon Elswick says that it was a better than average turnout for the meal, and is happy to help with the cause.
“We had $275 from the meals, we had some donations from the public. And then KNIA/KRLS also matched what we donated. So we’re looking at close to $800 for three hours, so it wasn’t a bad turnout.”
To date, the department has raised just under $45,000 for the cause. Chief Aaron Fuller tells KNIA/KRLS News that the purchase of a canine is expected to be approved at Monday night’s Knoxville City Council meeting. More information on the fundraiser is available here.
