The Knoxville Fire Department Auxiliary has launched a Christmas Blanket Drive, running now through December 15th. They are looking for hand-crafted blankets from the community to deliver to residents in Knoxville’s four assisted living facilities prior to Christmas. Katie Truetken is helping organize this effort, and says the goal is for firefighters to make a special delivery.
“We want to have the fire department show up to present these blankets. Of course we can’t get into the care facilities right now. But our plan is to have the fire department deliver these in a firetruck in December. If everything goes as planned, we hope to put some Christmas lights on the firetruck, and the care residents can open their windows and see the fire department deliver these blankets.”
They are in search of fleece, quilted or crocheted lap size blankets made by local residents. They need to be brand new and roughly 48″ x 60″ in size, and can be dropped off at the department during daytime business hours. Those without crafting skills that still want to contribute can do so by monetary donation to the department.
