With winter approaching, snow ordinances will likely take effect soon. Arlene Worrall with the Knoxville Police Department reminds residents of a few basic guidelines about snow removal.
“When we start to get some snow, we want to remind residents that we do have an ordinance for removal of snow on city sidewalks. They have 24 hours after the end of the snowfall to remove the snow, ice, or anything accumulated on their sidewalk. When you do remove the snow, it states in the code that it is not put on the property of another property owner, that the snow is kept on your property, and that you don’t pile it at an intersection so that we leave lots of visibility for pedestrians to walk and for cars to have that visibility.”
If snow is not removed within 24 hours, residents will incur a fine of $25 on the first offense, $50 for the second offense, and $100 on the third or subsequent offense. More information about the Knoxville snow ordinance can be heard on an upcoming Let’s Talk Knoxville.
