The Pella City Council held a public hearing Tuesday and approved a ground lease with Weiler Transportation at the Pella Municipal Airport. Weiler requested to lease a portion of land at the Pella Municipal Airport to construct an aircraft hangar. The proposed land that Weiler would like to build the hangar on is currently leased by Pella Corporation, who has informed the city that they would be willing to cancel their ground lease for this property under the condition that if the South Central Regional Airport is not constructed, the city would provide Pella Corporation with a buildable site at the current airport.

Council also approved the final quantity adjustment and accepted improvements for the Pella Municipal Airport runway rehabilitation project — which will be at 90% paid for by the Federal Aviation Administration, as well as an amendment to the Bos Landen Golf Course Management Agreement with MK Golf Shops, Inc., for operation of the clubhouse, tweaking the amount of revenue that goes to the group.

Following regular business during Policy and Planning, a majority of the Pella City Council was in favor of moving meeting start times to 6:00 p.m. This change will be formally considered at their next meeting on December 15th. If approved, this change would start with the second meeting in January, as there is a public hearing scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the first meeting in January.
