Both Mustangs squads were winless going into Friday, and will have to wait at least one more game to change that after both the boys and girls fell to the Cubs on the road, as heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.

The girls lost 48-29 in a game that they struggled to find some consistency scoring. Lilli Baird led the team with 14 points and Emily Foster was second with eight points despite scoring just four total in the first three games of the season. Every other player that saw action scored two points or less. Head Coach Jeff Lindsay says that they simply need to improve on that front and be more diverse offensively.

The boys were on the wrong end of a classic, resulting in a 64-62 defeat to the hands of Nevada. They trailed by 13 after the first quarter, then by just three at the break. They eventually took the lead in the third quarter, but the fourth saw multiple lead changes. Tied at 62 with 12 seconds left, PCM’s Matt Rosonke was called for a foul giving Nevada two free throws. Ayden Rhodes made both and Andrew Mitchell barely missed a jumper that would have tied the game at the buzzer. Mitchell finished with 14 points, while Carson Vande Lune and Gatlin Boell had 15 to lead the team. Head Coach Fred Lorensen says that he likes seeing the ball get shared and that the grit his team showed Friday was the best he’s seen out of them so far.

The Mustangs won’t even get to practice before their next contest, which comes Monday at Pella Christian. That game can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
