melcher-dallas-5

The Melcher-Dallas Saints split their doubleheader Friday night at Ankeny Christian. The girls got their first win of the season in a 70-23 rout of the Eagles. The boys were on the losing end of the second game, 90-59.

The girls got a dominant performance from Hailey Hoch, as she played most of the game due to Riley Enfield being set back with a knee injury. Hoch’s final stat line was 23 points and 19 rebounds, with 15 of them being on the offensive end. Kynser Reed was second on the team in scoring with 17 points. Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports that her team rebounded very well and moved the ball around better than their first two games of the season.

The boys got 20 points from Ryan Krpan and 19 from Lane VanderLinden, but it was turnovers that told the story. The Saints turned the ball over 30 times against Ankeny Christian. Cale Leaver of Ankeny Christian led all scorers with 30. Coach Jim Wells tells KNIA Sports that his team has no answers for the Eagles’ offense as they moved the ball extremely well and couldn’t stop Leaver at all.

The Saints’ next doubleheader is at home as they play conference powerhouse Lamoni. The girls’ game tips off at 6:00 P.M.
