The Knoxville City Council held a lengthy discussion on the city’s rental inspection program at its meeting Monday. The council reviewed a joint letter from numerous landlords which outlined concerns over updated building codes and inspections as it relates to the pandemic situation. Mayor Brian Hatch says that it was a quality discussion.
“Very good discussion. A lot of questions were brought up throughout the discussion. I think it brought up a lot of good things for council to think about. It allowed staff to understand the need for information. There was a lot of discussion around the pandemic. I know people were worried about the situation we’re in right now, and moving forward, how it works with a rental inspection program. We tried to assure them that we by no means want to put someone in harm’s way.”
Hatch adds that the rental inspection program is scheduled to begin July 1st, 2021, but the start date could be adjusted if conditions warrant. Hear more from Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
