The Pella basketball teams made short work of a long road trip for non-conference competition at Washington, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS Tuesday.
It was a 58-12 blowout for the Lady Dutch and an 87-55 rout for the No. 5 in 3A Pella boys over the Demons.
Pella’s girls were paced by their defense, forcing 32 total Washington turnovers and out-rebounding the Demons 30-17. Head Coach Jerod Garland says while there were still some inconsistencies on offense, their intensity on defense allowed them some margin for error and only allowed the Demons to make four baskets from the floor over four quarters.
Madison Naig paced the Lady Dutch with 21 points and 11 different Pella players found their name with a mark in the score book.
The Pella boys defense turned into an explosive 21-7 first quarter, which was given an exclamation point with a Keegan Hansen three-pointer that ultimately marked a margin Washington could not come back from.
Pella Boys Head Coach Derek Schulte noted it was another successful night of unselfish basketball for the Dutch — they tallied 20 total assists and 11 players scored.
It was a Double Dutch Double-Double for the top two players from Tuesday’s win — Ryan Mace scored 16 points and tallied 12 rebounds, and Josh Warner scored 15 and nabbed 11 boards. Grant Nelson scored 14 of his game-total 16 points in the first half.
The Lady Dutch improve to 2-2 overall, and seek their first league win Friday, while the 3-0 boys team will host the defending Class 3A champions when Norwalk comes to face both squads in Little Hawkeye Conference action. Those games can be heard on 92.1 KRLS.
