The Knoxville wrestling team has suspended its season due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the program. The team did not compete at last Thursday’s South Central Conference meet, and cancelled its home invitational Saturday. Coach Doug Hatch tells KNIA/KRLS News that he hopes this short break will help to make sure his team can continue the rest of the season smoothly.
“I never know if we’re going to be able to have a meet or practice the next day. I think this precaution we’re taking here is going to ensure the rest of the season we will be OK, and stop the spread that’s going on.”
The team will not compete at Thursday’s scheduled quad meet at Clarke, and will tentatively return to action Saturday at Roland-Story. According to Hatch, the team will likely have limited wrestlers available for that meet.
