graceland-cemetary

Wreaths will be placed on the graves of those who served in the armed forces at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville today as part of a ceremony by the organization Wreaths Across America. This event would typically include volunteers, but is not involving them this year due to COVID-19.

Kurt Froyen, commander of the American Legion, and Dick Reed, Commander of the Knoxville VFW tell KNIA/KRLS news that the Legion and VFW will be handling crosses and flags as usual, but won’t be present at the event because of COVID-19.

This ceremony is part of Wreaths Across America Day, with similar ceremonies taking place throughout the United States. Wreaths Across America is a national nonprofit organization that was founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, DC.
