An end-of-year winter storm is brewing, and may have a widespread impact on the State of Iowa heading into the new year.

According to the National Weather Service, confidence is increasing for a high precipitation event starting as soon as Tuesday afternoon. For South Central Iowa, there is a high probability that multiple modes of severe winter weather are possible — with sleet, freezing rain, and snow all likely to fall through Wednesday evening. While exact amounts will be hard to predict, travel will likely be dangerous, and especially hazardous along and north of Interstate 80 across most of the state.
