State Senator Julian Garrett, representing Warren and Madison County in Senate District 13 in the Iowa Legislature, will be on familiar committees to begin the new session. Garrett will retain his chair position on the Justice Systems budget subcommittee, and will be the vice chair of the Judiciary Committee, and serve on the Appropriations and Human Resources Committees. Senator Garrett tells KNIA News the Justice Systems budget subcommittee deals with agencies that are involved in public safety and justice, and amounts to approximately 10% of the state’s general fund, and would not be surprised to see the session go shorter than the normal 110 days. The Iowa Legislature will begin their session on Monday, January 11th.
