pleasantville-3

The Pleasantville Trojans returned to action Tuesday night for a double header with West Central Conference foe Woodward-Granger, as heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com. The result was a split as the Trojans girls came out on top 40-31, while the boys came up just short 56-51.

The Trojan girls were led by Malorie McKinney’s 16 points, ten of which were in the fourth quarter. Adi Adreon scored six points, all of which happened in a 30 second span to close out the first half and open the second. That helped the Trojans build a 23-18 halftime lead, even though the Hawks’ Darby Nixon hit a buzzer beating jumper as they headed into the locker room.

Pleasantville came out strong though and led 29-18, but Woodward-Granger tied it up at 29 in the fourth. McKinney then went on her big run and the Trojans outscored their opponents 11-2 to close out the game. The girls improve to 4-5 on the season.

Head Coach Jeff Cook says they tried to adjust their intensity at halftime, which led to better results in the second half.

“We were scrappy. Maybe a little too scrappy in the first half. We kept putting them on the foul line. I think they got nine of their 18 first half points because they were free throws. We talked about that at halftime. We slowed down. We didn’t foul them as much in the second half.”

The Pleasantville boys came out of the gates strong and led 7-0 after just two minutes. However, the Trojans got outscored 31-9 for the rest of the first half and trailed by as much as 17. They made it a one score game late, but their valiant comeback was halted and they wound up losing by five.

Mason Scheve had a season high 24 points. The next closest were Taylon Mount and Caylor Clark with seven.

The Trojans’ basketball teams will be back in action on Friday for a home double header against Van Meter, starting at 6:15.
