The top two teams in Class 3A boys basketball will go head-to-head tonight as part of a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader when Dallas Center-Grimes visits Pella High School.
The teams have identical 7-0 overall records, and are tied atop the LHC standings at 4-0. DCG has been ranked number one in the state since the beginning of the season, while the Little Dutch have climbed up to number two. Pella Coach Derek Schulte says that he has a ton of respect for the Mustangs.
“We knew coming into the season that they’d be a favorite and a team that can make a deep run. We’re excited for the opportunity, because every team in the state doesn’t get the opportunity to host number one in their home gym. We’re looking forward to it, it should be a great matchup, and we’ll be ready to bring a ton of energy.”
The opener of the twinbill features a pair of teams trying to stay in the LHC girls race. While Indianola is alone at the top at 4-0, both Pella and DCG are part of a pack at 3-1 just off the pace. The Mustangs moved up to number five in the latest Class 4A poll.
Tonight’s action starts at 6:15 at Pella High School. Trevor Castle will have the play-by-play on the KRLS2 stream at www.kniakrls.com with John Holterhaus and Phil Hemming providing the analysis. You can watch the game live, with our audio, on the Pella Dutch Live channel on YouTube.
