Monroe was the site of the PCM Invitational, an 12 school event that saw the likes of Pella, Knoxville, Pleasantville, and the Mustangs taking part on Saturday.
The Dutch had a solid outing as they tied for third with 138.5 points. While no wrestlers from the Tulip City finished first in his respective weight class, they had four finish second: Damion Clark at 120 pounds, Ryan Hancock at 126, Ryan Van Donselaar at 160, and Kody Huisman at 285 (heavyweight).
Knoxville finished seventh in the field with 93 points. The Panthers had a trio of their own wind up finishing second in their classes: Marco Alejo at 113 pounds, Luke Spaur at 132, and Andon Trout at 138.
Pleasantville finished fifth with 124 points. Two Trojans managed to earn gold: Tyler Gibson at 120 and Matthew Kauffman at 285.
The hosting PCM Mustangs finished sixth with 94 points. Colby Tool made the home crowd happy as he finished atop the 152 weight class, which is a step down from his usual division of 160. Remington Fry also finished second at 106 pounds.
Putting on an event like this is no simple task, and PCM Head Coach Jeff Nicholson says that it was worth seeing so many kids getting to compete.
“It is a big event to put together. We got 12 teams here. Some of the teams we allowed to bring extra wrestlers so we could fill out some of those brackets where teams were missing wrestlers. I’ve been on the computer several hours this week. It’s a big undertaking to get this thing running, but it’s worth it.”
All four schools will be back in action this Thursday, all at different locations. Pella will be at home, Knoxville at Davis County in Bloomfield, Pleasantville at Wayne, and PCM at Greene County.
