Pleasantville’s basketball teams fought valiantly, but it wasn’t enough as they were swept by the Earlham Cardinals Tuesday night with the girls losing 42-37 and the boys losing 57-51, as heard on the KNIA3 stream.

The Trojan girls dropped a back-and-forth defensive struggle to the Cardinals and may have suffered a tough setback in the process. During the game, Trojan Center Malorie McKinney left the game with an ankle injury and did not return. Adi Adreon once again led the team in scoring with 14 points, but it wasn’t enough. Adreon tells KNIA Sports that it was a few key moments that led to the loss.

“We go into every game competing and playing hard. Malorie got hurt, we got into some foul trouble, Riley had health issues. We played hard, we played our best, honestly, but not the outcome we wanted.”

The Trojan boys dropped their fifth game out of six in another close loss. In a hard-fought contest, Pleasantville couldn’t hang on to a ten-point lead in the fourth quarter and ended the game on a 17-4 Earlham run. Mason Scheve led the way for the Trojans, scoring 23 points and knocking down five three-pointers. Coach Tom Wilkins tells KNIA Sports that his team needs to be more consistent.

“We look like two different teams at times. We came out in that first quarter, didn’t look good, sluggish, seven points. All of a sudden, we decided to play in the second quarter and scored 21 points. Come out in the third, built a ten-point lead, and in the fourth quarter, we scored single digits. As a coach, it is my job to get that second and third quarter team to play all four quarters, but we haven’t figured it out yet.”

Pleasantville will be back in action for a West Central Conference Doubleheader Friday night as they take on Des Moines Christian. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin with the girls’ game tipping off at 6:00 PM. The games will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call.
