The Indianola Community Youth Foundation’s mission is to give back to the youth and the community, and found ways to do so over the course of 2020 despite many of their normal programs being altered or canceled. Director Taylor Litchkey tells KNIA News one of their biggest events of the year, the Back To School Bash, had to be canceled this year, but they still wanted to find a way to get the community together safely, and organized the ICYF Trunk or Treat.
“We thought that morale was kind of down, and we wanted to put together a fun community event, but we needed to do it safely and within COVID-19 guidelines. So we decided on Halloween, and went with a Trunk or Treat event. We were able to be outside, encourage masks, and social distance, and get 1,000 people through there safely. It was an amazing turnout for our first year there, and we are so thankful to everyone who participated.”
Litchkey also said she appreciates the partnership with the Indianola School District, as they have combined to help put on several events safely.
