The PCM Mustangs wrestling squad hit the mats for the second day in a row at the Ed Winger Classic in Urbandale, which featured 22 different schools Saturday. The Mustangs finished towards the middle of the bunch in 14th and accumulated 58.5 total points.
This was the first meet of the year where the Mustangs didn’t have an athlete finish first in his weight class. State medalist Colby Tool, fresh off a 152 pound title Friday, finished second Saturday after just his second loss of the season. Returning state tournament participant Landon Fenton, who has missed some time recently, suffered his first defeat of the year, finishing third at 145 pounds.
Head Coach Jeff Nicholson says that his two stars work very hard and will do all they can to achieve their ultimate goal of being state champions in their senior years.
“They know the end is near and time is going to go really fast. They’re working very hard in the room. Both of them want to get to the top of the podium. Both of them are shooting to be state champs and doing what they need to do to get there.”
After competing back to back days, the Mustangs will get a couple days off before heading to Greene County on Tuesday for a meet that was originally scheduled for January 14th. Their next home meet will be Thursday as they host Van Meter.
