In a season where Pleasantville’s boys’ basketball team has struggled, one positive sign is the recent play of Junior guard Mason Scheve.
In three of the last four games, Scheve scored 20 points or more. Scheve had 24 points in Pleasantville’s win over Ogden on January 11. Eight days later, he scored 23 points in last Tuesday’s game with Earlham. However, he made those games seem minuscule when he scored a career-high 35 points against No. 3 in Class 3A Des Moines Christian. Coach Tom Wilkins tells KNIA Sports that Scheve’s improvement in shooting the ball is the reason why he has gone on such a hot stretch.
“I don’t think he walked out of the gym until 6:00. He shot for 45 minutes, and I am not gonna kick a kid out of the gym. So I sat there and watched him shoot. You saw the one he hit from the volleyball line the other night, and he asks me, ‘were you mad about that?’ I said, ‘No you shoot that all the time in practice.”
For highlights of Scheve’s 35-point performance, tune in to the Radio Sports Page tonight at 6:00 PM and tomorrow at 10:00 AM on KNIA/KRLS.
Pleasantville’s boys will be back in action Friday playing at Madrid as part of a girls-boys West Central Conference doubleheader. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:45 PM and will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call.
