Pleasantville’s basketball teams split with Madrid Friday night, as the girls won 48-30, but the boys lost 58-41, as heard on the KRLS3 stream.
The Trojans’ girls got back into the win column with another impressive defensive showing as they allowed 30 points or less for the fifth time this season. Adi Adreon led the way with 17 points for the Trojans, including ten in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Pleasantville also got 11 points from Rachel Harvey and 10 from Malorie McKinney. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that Adreon’s added inside scoring game helped lead the team to victory.
“She’s decided that she is going to have to go inside and get some points off of easy baskets and 12-15 foot jump shots. When the three-pointer is not going in, she can score and she’s capable of that. She is a very good 15-foot jump-shooter.”
The Trojans’ girls will have a quick turnaround as they have a non-conference matchup with Colfax-Mingo at home today at 3:00 PM.
Pleasantville’s boys dropped their eighth out of nine games and lost their fourth straight game. After Mason Scheve dropped 35 against Des Moines Christian, he followed it up with a paltry eight points, as he was a non-factor for most of the game. Colby Sandholdt led the way in scoring for the Trojans, knocking in 11 points with two three-pointers. Coach Tom Wilkins tells KNIA Sports that his team needs somebody other than Scheve to step up in the game.
“This is what we are going to see the rest of the year, so someone has to step up. If they are going to box-and-one Mason Scheve, and you knew that was coming after a 34-point barrage happened. Somebody has to step up, we left so many open shots out there on the court. We got seniors that need to knock down shots or at least take them. That is something I will be thinking about tonight, and it is likely we will see it again tomorrow.”
The Trojans’ boys will also have a quick turnaround as they travel to Clarke for a non-conference matchup that was previously postponed due to a snowstorm that took place Monday. Tip-off begins at 2:00 PM.
